The SBC Awards have found a new home for this year’s event, after the illustrious iGaming industry awards show has announced that the Palau Nacional in Barcelona has been chosen to host the 2022 ceremony, which is set to take place on the 22nd of September.

In somewhat of a shakeup, the new location has taken over from London, which had previously hosted the event in the month of December. London has had a shadow of doubt cast over it in 2022, as multiple iGaming brands pulled out from the ICE London event, amidst concerns related to the Covid-19 pandemic, and potential investment doubts.

Palau Nacional – The Jewel of Catalunya

The Palau Nacional, or National Palace, is set in the heart of Barcelona, Spain. The palace itself is a magnificent building, which will serve well as it welcomes the finest brands in iGaming. Sitting on the hill of Montjuïc, it has been the home to the National Art Museum of Catalonia for almost 90 years. The building is no stranger to hosting events, and so, along with its grandeur, it was seen as an ideal substitute for London.

Moreover, the Palace has the Gran Saló (the Great Hall), which has enough room to occupy a standing capacity of 1300 people, making it more than capable to host this year’s SBC Awards event.

Featuring Alongside SBC Summit Barcelona – A Full Package in a Single Trip

From September 20-22, SBC also has another event – the SBC Summit. This event was already scheduled to take place in Barcelona, at the Fira Barcelona Montjuïc, and so having the SBC Awards 2022 in Barcelona at the same time, will offer guests much more convenience and the chance of attending both events.

The CEO, and founder of SBC, Rasmus Sojmark, spoke regarding the latest news. He stated he consulted with the SBC audience and partners, and the general feedback was in support of having the SBC Awards 2022 sit alongside the SBC Summit. These events are what he describes as ‘must-attend’ on the iGaming calendar.

Commenting about the venue, Rasmus Sojmark spoke highly of the stunning Palau Nacional. Sojmark believes that having the event set in such memorable surroundings will deliver a greater experience for all the guests. The SBC founder also mentioned how suitable the venue is, as it will comfortably be able to host the 1,000 SBC guests on the night. Sojmark finished by saying that, alongside the largest ever SBC Summit, Barcelona will be the heartbeat of the iGaming and betting industry for that whole week in September.

First-Time Awards – More Awards Up for Grabs Than Ever Before

The SBC Awards is usually the last of the industry awards each year, and if you remember the last event (which was held in London last December), there were some big-name winners. Pragmatic Play was announced as the ‘Slots Developer of the Year’, Swintt earned the ‘Rising Star in Casino innovation’ award while other winners included Evolution, BetConstruct, Evoplay, and Trustly.

On the evening of the 9th annual SBC Awards, guests can look forward to 7 new categories within the 45 categories scheduled. These are:

  • Best Social Responsibility Supplier
  • Socially Responsible Operator of the Year
  • Crypto Gaming Operator of the Year
  • North European Sportsbook of the Year
  • South European Sportsbook of the Year
  • East European Sportsbook of the Year
  • West European Sportsbook of the Year

Entries for all the categories are open until the 3rd of June. In 2021, the total number of entries set a new record, but Rasmus Sojmark has gone on the record as saying that he fully expects that this record will be broken at this year’s ceremony.

SBC Summit Barcelona 2022: This event will welcome approximately 6,000 guests, who will attend a conference that covers all areas of both online casino and sports betting. Around 200 companies will combine in an exhibition, to show their most recent innovations.
