This month, Microgaming, an online gaming company based in Douglas, celebrates twenty years of operating in the Isle of Man.

The company moved to the island in 2001 and situated its headquarters there. Since then, the leading online gaming content aggregator has invested massively in its workforce, the community, and the state-of-the-art office building.

Microgaming has always prioritized corporate social responsibility, which involves giving back to the community in which it operates. Over the last two decades, Microgaming has contributed over 3.5 million Euros to the island through a local community initiative.

The contribution includes 875 thousand Euros spent on healthcare projects in the base.

Launch of Microgaming’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program

Microgaming launched its Corporate Social Responsibility program in 2014. The program, named Microgaming PlayitForward, has recorded success since its inception. The CSR program has supported several worthy events and causes.

The program works with three pillars: Planet, Place, and People. The scheme is driven by the people at Microgaming. It usually involves them collectively volunteering over 3,000 hours of their time, getting involved actively, and nominating monthly causes that require support.

Over the years, the local community has always supported events sponsored by Microgaming by attending them. The longstanding Microgaming Douglas Soapbox Race and the Microgaming Lighthouses Challenge are some of the events which attract several spectators and entries annually. Also, 24 gifted students from the Isle of Man have enjoyed the support of the renowned Microgaming PlayitForward by funding their living costs. This cost is covered in the scheme’s Education Bursary for university students. Currently, 10 young people are also enjoying financial assistance via the scheme.

Growth of Microgaming’s Team

Microgaming’s team in the Isle of Man has grown tremendously from 5 to over 180 industry professionals who perform various functions. In 2017, Microgaming relocated to new offices next to its previous headquarters on Circular Road to reaffirm its commitment to the community and accommodate its growing workforce.

The new 5-story office is the only island-owned premises owned by a private organization. It was built to support Microgaming’s environmental objectives. The leading building sustainability assessment method worldwide—BREEAM—even rated the office ‘excellent’. In 2020, the company achieved ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system to further formalize its sustainability pledge.

While speaking at the celebration, Microgaming’s CEO, John Coleman, reminisced about how far the company has gone since its inception in 2001.

He mentioned that they started small with little workforce and they have now grown into a household name boasting of a passionate and talented workforce.

John continued by expressing his joy at the company’s current status quo. He noted that the company is proud of its growth and success achieved through collective commitment. He ended by saying that he is delighted that the company is achieving its goal of supporting the local community, and the island community is also actively engaged in Microgaming’s supported events.
