Find out about the 42nd Annual Irish Gaming Show – Ireland’s one and only exhibition related to the gambling industry! (Image from gaminator-system.com)

There are gambling exhibitions, expos, and events held all around the world, so many, in fact, that it is often difficult to keep up with them all. They offer the chance for gambling operators, suppliers, aggregators, affiliates, payment methods, and more, to network, take part in industry discussions, and primarily, showcase their products.

We report on most of them as they happen, such as the recently held ICE London 2023 and SPiCE India 2023 iGaming exhibitions.

As there are so many, however, we get surprised when we learn about another. For instance, just a little over a week ago, was the 42nd Edition of the Annual Irish Gaming Show. It took place on the 7th and 8th of March at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry, Dublin.

This is an event that we had never heard of before, which is astonishing considering how long it has existed. Our excuse is that it is primarily focused on the land-based gambling industry in Ireland and not specifically iGaming. That said, it does attract major iGaming brands including EGT, Novomatic, Merkur, Amatic Industries, and Blueprint Gaming even though they are there in a land-based capacity.

If you’re interested in the many exhibitions and events related to the iGaming industry, you can get a quick glimpse of what is yet to come this year via our 2023 iGaming events calendar here.

What is the Annual Irish Gaming Show?

Once the event caught our eye, it obviously caught our curiosity as well. We decided to do a bit of research to establish what the Annual Irish Gaming Show is all about.

Well, it claims to be the only gaming show related to the gambling industry in Ireland, and after a good look around, that claim looks to be true. It provides operators and vendors from around the world to gather and conduct business.

The event brings together a diverse range of gaming businesses, including casinos, arcades, bingo halls, amusements, and single-site operators. It gives them a platform to showcase their latest products, advancements, services, software, and more.

At this year’s event, there were 40 exhibitors in the Redwood Suite at the Crowne Plaza. You will see some of the most prominent in the accompanying box. One of the biggest names, and certainly with the biggest stand, was EGT situated on Stand 1-4. The company was able to showcase what it offers across the full length of the hall.

Gambling in Ireland – The Current Landscape

As you might know, the Gambling Industry in Ireland has been a hot topic in the country for the past few years. While all forms of gambling (including at offshore online casinos) is legal in Ireland, there has long been calls for re-regulation of the laws and regulations. This all came to a head in November 2022, when the Irish Government finally approved a new Gambling Regulation Bill that brings with it a new Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA).

That eagerly anticipated Bill on Gambling Regulation is currently in the committee stage and is anticipated to undergo further amendments prior to its final ratification by legislators. It is predicted that the new bill and the GRA will begin operations at some point in 2023.

The bill’s immediate effects comprise a prohibition on gambling advertisements on television between 5:00 pm and 9:30 pm every day, along with a complete restriction on social media promotions. Any Irish sports clubs with players under 18 years of age cannot accept sponsorships from gambling companies.

In Ireland, it is now illegal to gamble with funds obtained through credit cards. Additionally, VIP memberships and free bet promotions have been eliminated due to their predatory nature towards individuals with gambling addictions.

The regulatory agency is responsible for maintaining a public directory of licensed gambling establishments in Ireland that are in good standing, known as the National Gambling Exclusion Register. The agency is also in charge of the Social Impact Fund, which will finance research and problem gambling programs.

Legal Online Casinos Accepting Irish Players

  • 888 Casino (Great Option with Exclusive Games)
  • LeoVegas (Huge LeoVegas Jackpot)
  • Mr Green Casino (Green like the Irish)
  • Verde Casino (Good for crypto fans)
  • N1 Casino (Tons of promotions)

We think the re-regulation of Ireland’s gambling laws is a good idea. We just hope they do not push them too far – something that is a continuing criticism of the UK iGaming market.
