It’s that time of the year when FY 2024-2025 Q1 financial reports come out of the floodgates, and this time around, I am reporting on the latest UK gambling market results.
The data shows that gambling is up when counting both land-based and online sectors, including all gambling verticals under each.
Overall Revenue Increase
There has been a 12% year-on-year rise in GGY, and the average monthly active account backs this figure up with a 9% year-on-year rise. That is, assuming that the more active accounts are, the more players contribute to GGY.
Number of Online Slot Spins, Sessions & GGY Increase
Online slots have been a major factor contributing to this rise, with a 12% increase in spins, which so far in the first 6 months of 2024, there were a staggering 22.4 billion. In addition, there is an 8% rise in average session lengths.
It seems slots online are an unstoppable force despite no auto spins, no quick spins, no bonus buys, and each spin lasting at least 2.5 seconds or more. With the rise in spins has come an increase in online slot GGY, which is up 12% year-on-year.
However, as mentioned in our list of new UK gambling rules as of next month, players over 25 will have a £ 5.00 max bet limit applied, while anyone between 18 and 24 will be limited to £ 2.00 per spin max bets. Now, I’d like to see stats on how many online slot players bet more than £ 2.00 per spin, which would give us some indicators as to how the new rules will affect (a) online casino revenues and (b) the number of spins.
Sports Betting
As per the table below, Online Real Event Betting GGY outperformed all gambling sectors.
Just before I wrote this UKGC report, I wrote a financial analysis covering Evoke Plc H1 2024 Interim Results, and there is a stat in the latest UK report that ties in with the company’s revenue losses due to an 8% decrease in the UK Retail market. In the latest UK Gambling Market Q1 FY 2023 Vs. Q1 FY 2023, the table shows that ‘Over the Counter Bets’ are down 144 million year-on-year.
