2025 is upon us. Every year, the Casinoplusbonus team takes a look at what’s changed. We also look at what is to come in the future. In this brief iGaming market overview, we will look at some of the changes we have noticed throughout 2024. We will also try to make some predictions for what 2025 has in store for you.

2024 – What’s New?
Here are some of the main changes we noticed throughout 2024. As we cover news and casino reviews consistently, we feel we are in a great position to share our expertise.
Bonus Shops
One trend we are seeing is the increase in online casinos using bonus shops. Players earn coins in various ways.
Through deposits, playing real money games, completing challenges, and via tournament gameplay. Bonuses for sale depend on the casino’s catalog of games and online gambling verticals available. However, to give some examples, you can buy bonus money, free spins, bonus crabs, and free bets. I have seen some bonus shops also selling movie and music channel subscriptions as well as technology such as smartphones, gaming consoles, and tablets.
For 2025, my guess is more online casinos will add a bonus shop. What’s more, they will begin to compete by lowering the real money to coin accumulation and conversion rates.
Gamification
We’ve not seen the full effects of gamification hitting online casinos just yet. I suspect AI will play a large role in future gamification. For the time being, we have seen more online casinos include gamification to win bonuses.
Gamification Examples
- Bonus Maps
- Bonus Crabs
- Challenges
- Fun Games
I feel there is much more to come and much improvement for gamification in 2025. One great example of a company that is already ahead of the game is Soft2Bet.
Jack Bannon published news covering the following news – Soft2Bet Adds Bonus Dice Gamification. Maybe this is a sign of things to come in 2025.
The Rise of Cash Collect and Respin Slot Mechanics
There are several slot features we have seen dominate 2024 when new online slots make their debut appearance. A large number of software providers are adding fixed jackpots, respins, and/or cash collect features to their slots.
In the bullet list below, I have highlighted some of the new online casino game trends the Casinoplusbonus team has seen over 2024.
- Respins: Respins that use gold coins with multipliers or cash have become increasingly popular. BetSoft is one prime example. In our casino games news section, you will find the latest BetSoft Roadmaps and the majority of new slot releases use the hold and Win feature. We have seen Wazdan continue to release Hold the Jackpot slots while many other game developers are also jumping on the bandwagon.
- Fixed Jackpots: Fixed jackpots are often, but not always, a feature that is part of the respins feature explained in the first bullet point. Not only are their coin multipliers, but a mini, minor, major, or grand jackpot could hit the bonus reels. The top non-progressive jackpot paid is usually around 4,000x up to 10,000x your bet.
- Cash Collectors: The cash collection is similar to the respins feature. Except, on many slots, it is active during the base game and free spins. Also, this means there doesn’t need to be a respins bonus. Cash-collect symbols landing at the same time as multiplier/cash symbols will collect the cash and you get paid.
Playtech has already confirmed the success of this mechanic, which Jack Bannon reported in his news piece ‘Cash Collect Slot Game Success.’ Pragmatic Play’s Big Bass Bonanza collection is also using the Cash Collect feature often.
The Rise of Plinko and Crash Games
2024 has seen its fair share of Plinko and Crash Games enter the iGaming scene. Now I believe the reason for this is due to the success of SPRIBE’s Crash game Aviator. In 2023, the software provider won the EGR Operators Game of the Year. Adding to this, at the SIGMA Awards, it picked up the Most Played Game of the Year.
- Crash Games: Since Aviator’s double award win in 2023, Crash games are now trending. However, Spribe isn’t the first to have released this style of game. Yet, it is the first brand to gain recognition for its Aviator Crash game and so it lit a match under this iGaming niche.
Pragmatic Play released its High Flier crash game in 2024 with a 10,000x spins bet reward. On top of this, to gain traction toward the game, the software provider also put on a € 300,000 prize pool Fly & Win Prize Drops promotion with High Flier, the only qualifying game.
Gamzix also has its Pilot, Pilot Cup, and Pilot Coin Crash games. BGaming already began its Crash game collection in 2022 with Space XY. Yet, the software provider only released its next Crash games in 2024, which are Aviation Adventure, Top Eagle (2024), and Dragon’s Crash. 2025 is sure to bring us a flurry of Crash Games as this niche becomes increasingly in demand.
- Plinko: The rise of Plinko is another trend we noticed over 2024. Although, unlike SPRIBE’s Aviator no Plinko games won awards, still plenty of software providers now boast a Plinko game or collection in their online casino gaming portfolios. Rather than give you as much detail as I did above, take a look at the September news report ‘Why Plinko Games are Trending in Casinos.’
New Licensing Systems
It’s been a bit of a wrecking ball out there since Curacao changed its Master licensing system to the new Gambling Control Board (GCB).
- First, we have seen most iGaming and sports betting platforms move to the new GCB system, so there are no issues here.
- Second, some online casinos have moved to the PAGCOR licensing system. Yet, this was shut down before it even got started after the president of the Philippines banned overseas operators from the country.
- Third, the shutdown of PAGCOR saw casinos and sportsbooks that still refused to renew under the Curacao GCD switch to the Anjouan Gaming Authority (AGA).
In 2025, I don’t foresee many more changes in the online gambling entertainment licensing systems sphere. PAGCOR will shut down its overseas certification and we’ll have casinos that were under operators in Curcaso settle in with the new AGA licensing framework.
What will be interesting for 2025 is the reputation the Anjouan Gaming Authority will project. We have a year to decide how trustworthy the country’s online gambling framework is.
Crypto Casinos Accepting More Currencies
The cryptocurrency casino scene has been well ahead of any other online entertainment market for years now. We’ve had the option to deposit BTC, BCH, ETH, USDT TRC-20 & ECR-20, LTC, and DOGE for quite some time now. However, over 2024, we saw quite a few crypto casinos add additional ALT coins.
ALT Coins we are seeing more of at online casinos:
- Solana (SOL)
- TRON (TRX)
- Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO)
- Shiba Inu (SHIB)
- Binance Coin (BNB)
These are just five of many cryptos becoming increasingly accessible for online gamblers. There are many more. In 2025, we will likely see a flurry of other cryptos available, primarily due to the November and December 2024 bull run and the increasing popularity of crypto.
There is also a trend moving away from Bitcoin and into other altcoins on SOFTSWISS platforms, which Jack Bannon reported on this trend in the ‘Crypto Major Online Gambling Driver‘ news story. Could the same trend happen across other aggregator platforms and online casinos in 2025?
Changes in the UKGC Gambling Market
Since the UK White Paper gambling reform, the British gambling entertainment market has undergone some major changes. In 2025, we expect more to come, especially when affordability checks become mainstream.
Here are some of the rules changes in the Great Britain under the new UK Gambling Commission rules:
- £2.00 maximum bet limit on slot machines for British players aged 18 to 24.
- £5.00 maximum bet limit on slot machines for British players ages 25 or over.
- All British online casino operators must pay a 1% levy to contribute to gambling addiction charities and research.
- Players who deposit over a certain amount per week or month will need to undergo an affordability check. There is currently a test pilot project underway before the official rule comes into play in 2025.
The full scope of the changes to the British gambling market and how they affect players is available via the Casinoplusbonus British online casinos page.
What About AI, VR, and Metaverse?
Although the VR market is evolving, I don’t see 2025 as the year for virtual reality online casinos. Although BetContruct has shown a mini-metaverse is possible. Yet, VR isn’t as mainstream as smartphones and tablets.
There will undoubtedly be some strides made in 2025 to push VR into household homes. I predict by 2026 or 2027, VR will become mainstream and just as popular as game consoles.
As for AI. I know a lot of online casinos are using AI to predict player betting habits and spot players who are potentially or are showing signs of problem gambling. Yet, I have not seen this personally. Probably because when I gamble, I use a consistent bankroll management strategy and set responsible gambling limits.
Also, until AI increases its processing capacity, I feel metaverse gaming is on hold. Most companies developing Metaverse tech are simply waiting for a more powerful AI system. When that comes, we’ll start to see metaverse casinos start to overtake today’s traditional online casinos.
Recap
We’ve seen bonus shops and gamification improve player bonus options, and I expect 2025 to become the age of casino gamification. I don’t foresee any further major shifts in gambling regulations except for in Ireland when the new domestic licensing system comes into action. Furthermore, we will have access to a larger number of cryptocurrencies throughout 2025. VR and Metaverse tech will likely make small strides, but not have a major impact on the online gambling entertainment scene.
