It’s the start of yet another week, which means we get to look back at what new casino games have been released since our last new casino games report. I can tell you there were 31 new releases in the previous seven days – three more than what came the week before.

With the 31 new games this week added to the 192 released to date in 2024, the running total is up to 223 for the year so far.

If you look back on week 8 of 2023, you’ll see that this time last year, there were 198 new releases, so the iGaming developers have upped their games to the tune of an additional 25 new games compared to the previous year. It will be interesting to see if that continues throughout the rest of the year.

Many of the usual suspects have come out with new casino content this week, so that means you can check out new games from the likes of Pragmatic Play, Wazdan, Play’n Go, Push Gaming, Hacksaw Gaming, Evoplay, Relax Gaming, Endorphina, Yggdrasil, and NoLimit City.

Plus, while most new releases were video slots, a couple of live casino games made their online casino debuts. Bombay Live launched Speed Dragon Tiger, while Imagine Live brought a new live gameshow called Robin the Fair.

Top 5 Video Slot Releases – 2024 Week 8 Update

As ever, the team here at Casinoplusbonus has put each new slot through its paces before we ultimately shared our views and decided which titles make our top 5 and are deserving of a review. This week, we’ve gone with Rainbow Ryan 2 from Yggdrasil, Endorphina’s Book of Conquistador, Cowabunga Dream Drop by Relax Gaming, Play’n Go’s Undefeated Xerxes, and Mighty Munching Melons from Pragmatic Play.

• Rainbow Ryan 2 (Yggdrasil)

Like movie sequels, slot sequels often leave a bad taste in your mouth as they never hit the same spot as the original. That said, there are and have been exceptions, and Rainbow Ryan 2 from Yggdrasil is one of those. It has many of the original features that made the first Rainbow Ryan slot so popular, but also with some new additions. The theme remains the same as we once again follow Ryan, a leprechaun musician who loves nothing more than belting out his favourite songs to punters in his local pub.

As for the specs, Rainbow Ryan 2 offers 4,096 ways to win across a 6-reel and 4-row reel configuration, and the high volatility slot has a maximum win of 20,000x the stake and an admittedly disappointing RTP of 94%.

Rainbow Ryan 2 Slot Features Explained

As mentioned, a lot of what made the original great returns, but some excellent new bonus features could help you pull in wins of up to 20,000x your stake.

• Wild Symbols: The wild symbol can land on any reel and in any position and will substitute for all local symbols when a winning combination is possible.
• Synced Reels & Encore Feature: Triggered randomly, between two and six reels can synchronise – meaning they each have the same symbols in all positions. • Free Spins Bonus: You’ll receive 8, 12, 16, or 20 free spins if the required 3, 4, 5, or 6 respective scatter symbols land anywhere on view during a spin. During this feature, each spin is guaranteed to have two synchronised reels, and each trigger of the Encore feature gives another synchronised reel and an additional free spin. The Louder multipliers also remain persistent during this feature – so they do not reset between spins.
• Jackpot Game: During the base game, each time a jackpot symbol lands, it will contribute 1, 2, or 3 points to a collection meter located above the reels. Once you’ve collected 400 points, you’re given a spin on a jackpot wheel, which will deliver either the Mini (15x), Minor (40x), Major (100x), or Maxi (2,000x) fixed jackpots.
• Buy Bonus Feature: For those of you who prefer to take bigger risks, there is a buy bonus feature that lets you purchase the free spins bonus outright. For 75x your stake, you will receive between 8 and 20 free spins, 150x gives you between 12 and 20, 250x gets you between 16 and 20, and 350x guarantees you have 20.

For me, Yggdrasil has done a good job of mixing the best parts of the Rainbow Ryan slot with some new and exciting features that take the sequel to the next level. The only negative is the low 94% RTP, which has to be because of the fixed jackpots you can win once you collect enough tokens. If you can look past that and embrace the excellent features and modifiers on this latest slot from the Yggdrasil slot developer,  I’m confident you will have a great time playing Rainbow Ryan 2 – the potential max win of 20,000x the stake is one reason alone to try out this slot.

Combination Spin Bet Multipliers: There are no paylines on Rainbow Ryan 2, so essentially, you just need to line up three or more matching symbols on successive reels starting from the leftmost reel to create winning combinations. The six-symbol combinations bring payouts of a multiplier of your stake of: Wild Symbol (10x), Beer Barrel (5x) Leprechaun’s Hat (4x), Whiskey Bottle (3x), Mug of Beer (2.5x), Ace (1x), King (0.9x), Queen (0.8x), Jack (0.7x), Ten (0.6x).

• Book of Conquistador (Endorphina)

The next slot we feel is among the best of the new releases in the past seven days is Endorphina’s Book of Conquistador, another ‘Book’ style slot to join the dozens of others currently available to play at online casinos.

With this type of slot, you can expect an Ancient Egyptian theme, high symbol payouts, a wild/scatter symbol, and a free spins bonus with a randomly chosen expanding symbol. Book of Conquistador is a 5-reel, 3-row, and 10 payline slot that has a high volatility, a 96.05% RTP, and a solid max win of 6,000x the stake.

Book of Conquistador Features Explained

If you’ve played ‘Book’ slots before, you probably have a good idea of what to expect; however, for those of you new to this genre of slots, these are the features you can expect:

• Wild/Scatter Symbol: As with most ‘Book’ slots, there is a dual wild and scatter symbol on the reels of Book of Conquistador. While there’s not anything new here, aside from the addition of the Risk Game, Book of Conquistador provides a telling reminder of why ‘Book’ slots have proved so popular over time. Is it as good as the Book of Dead casino slot from Play’n Go or some of the other titles that first brought us this genre? Perhaps not, but it’s not far behind. Book of Ra is the original, so another one I’d recommend you check out, while other top titles include John Hunter and the Book of Tut and BGaming’s Book of Cats. 

Combination Spin Bet Multipliers: Aside from the four top-paying symbols which require two or more, you must land three or more matching symbols across a payline to secure a payout. • Cowabunga Dream Drop (Relax Gaming)

Hands up all of you who, having read the title of this slot, are now expecting a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed slot. Come on, admit it! Actually, while the term Cowabunga gained widespread appeal due to those movies, it was actually first used by surfers – and surfing is what this new Dream Drop Jackpot slot from Relax Gaming is themed on.

Cowabunga Dream Drop is a 5-reel and 7-row slot that offers up to 3,087 ways to win, a high variance, a progressive jackpot-influenced RTP of 93.99%, and a local max win of 6,000x the stake. If you’re going to play a jackpot slot, of course, it is not the local max win you’re focused on – it is the up to €10 million progressive jackpot that the Dream Drop can produce.

Cowabunga Dream Drop Slot Features Explained

While that jackpot will top anyone’s wishlist when playing the Cowabunga Dream Drop slot, only a very small percentage of people will get lucky enough to win it – so most of the time, it is the bonus features, and that 6,000x max win that will give you the best chance of big wins. Let’s take a look at what they are:

• Sync & Expand Mechanic: As standard, you’ll spin the reels of Cowabunga Dream Drop with 243 ways to win, but on any random spin, those ways can increase to as many as 3,087. The middle three reels can increase to a random height of up to seven positions high, and when all three do that, that’s when you have the full ways to win in front of you. We’re well into double figures now when it comes to Dream Drop Jackpot slots, and Relax Gaming is not slowing down on the one-a-month it launches. Is Cowabunga Dream Drop among my favourites? No, but it’s still a good slot well worthy of a place in our top 5 this week. Personally, I prefer Volatile Vikings 2 Dream Drop as it has a bigger 10,000x the stake local max win and a pay-anywhere mechanic, while other good options are Beelionaires Dream Drop and Snake Arena Dream Drop.

Combination Spin Bet Multipliers: Three or more matching symbols on consecutive reels are required to create a winning combination on Cowabunga Dream Drop. The top 5-symbol payouts are: Wild Symbol (2x), Ginger Surfer (2x), Female Surfer (1x), Green Surfer (0.8x), Red/Orange Fish (0.2x), Green/Blue Fish (0.15x).

• Mighty Munching Melons (Pragmatic Play)

Mighty Munching Melons is a 5-reel, 10-pay line online slot from Pragmatic Play. The game features a Pacman motif with watermelons eating coins and ghost symbols on a greenhouse background. Despite the odd theme, the slot provides big payout potential with wins up to 3,000x your spin bet. The high-volatility game has an RTP of 96.05% and wager options ranging from $0.20 to $240 per spin. There is also an Ante Bet option to raise stakes by 50% for a better chance of activating the main bonus round.

While Mighty Munching Melons has an eccentric style, the features provide strong winning potential. The moving Melons lead to some exciting gameplay with multipliers increasing values. And the generous maximum payout gives a huge upside on lucky spins.

Mighty Munching Melons Feature Explained

• Scatter Pays: 2 or more scatters award instant cash prizes. If 2 scatters land, there is a chance a 3rd is added to start the bonus.
• Bonus Respins Game: Getting 3+ scatters begins the bonus round with 3 respins. Money symbols provide cash awards while Melons move around to collect them. Melons increase multipliers, expanding in size when they eat Ghosts. The respins game ends if no symbols land on the reels during respins for 3 consecutive times. If new symbols hit the reels, the respin count is reset to 3. With larger Melon symbols, respins can reset to 4 with an ‘Extra Life;.
• Money Symbols: These symbols have random values assigned. They can be worth 0,1x, 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x, 2.5x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 100x, 250x or 500x.
• Large Melon Symbol: Each time the Pac Pan melon symbol collects a ghost, it expands to 2×2, and then 3×3, which is the max size.
• Ante Bet: Improve your chances of triggering the bonus respins by using the ante bet to increase your bet by 50%.
• Bonus Buy: You can purchase the bonus round for 100x your bet.

There are several online slots, Pragmatic Play has some fun options with respins and bonus buy features. Tic Tac Take takes inspiration from the popular naughts and crosses game, and as you might have guessed, it is also called tic-tac-toe. This slot is more volatile, but with the Tic Tac Toe Respin feature, you get chances at multiple respins to lock wild symbols in place to line up more winning combos. As for the bonus buy, it is also 100x your total bet. Now, if cowboy themes are more your style, Cowboy Coins, when we tested it out, landing just 3 scatters triggered a bonus round of respins featuring Money Sacks, Safes, Horseshoes, and Dynamite symbols with boosted wins. It also has a bonus buy round for 100x and additional bonus buy options worth 500x your bet.

• Undefeated Xerxes (Play’n GO)

Undefeated Xerxes is an ancient Greek-themed online slot game created by Play’n GO. This 5-reel, 4-row slot has 30 fixed paylines and medium volatility. The max win potential is an impressive 10,000x the bet, although the hit rate is only 1 in 100 million spins. The visuals are inspired by ancient Greek warriors, with scenes of battle in the opening video. The graphics during gameplay are solid as expected from Play’n GO, though not very original. The soundtrack builds an atmosphere of tension. This slot features a 96.20% RTP, however operators can adjust this down to 84.20% depending on jurisdiction. There are standard Wilds and various Multiplier Wilds (2x to 5x) that stand in for regular symbols to form wins.

Undefeated Xerxes Slot Features Explained

• Wild Symbols: Substitute for any of the regular symbols to extend the symbol count or to help complete a symbol combination.
• Wild Multiplier: Wilds can come with multipliers worth 2x to 5x the value of any wins they extend or complete.
• Wild Frames: During regular play, 3-4 Wild Frames can randomly appear on the reels, turning those spaces into standard or multiplier Wilds.
• Free Spins Bonus: The free spins round starts when 3 Bonus symbols land in view, awarding 10 free spins upfront. All Wilds that show up will frame their spots, and if they land in an existing frame, that frame upgrades into a Multiplier Wild. Frames stay fixed until the final free spin when they all change
• Upgrade Frames: During free spins, frames turn into regular Wilds and upgraded frames turn into random Multiplier Wilds between 2x and 5x.

With its ancient Greek theme, Undefeated Xerxes brings epic visuals and a warrior spirit to the reels. While this is a good online slot, it doesn’t stand out much. The base game and bonus features, while fun, feel a bit standard. For thrill seekers, the potential 10,000x max win and final free spin will bring excitement, but the hit rate is extremely low. Overall a decent, if not remarkable addition to the Play’n GO games.
