Fair Gambling Ads

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) has teamed up with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The aim is to reduce the number of ads exposed to citizens below the age of 18.

In a new campaign between the two authorities, the goal is to encourage people to report misleading or inappropriate gambling advertising.

Operators and citizens of Ireland all have a voice in the matter. The idea now is to make it clear how these two agencies manage gambling advertising complaints.

The new procedure means that operators currently under the country’s domestic gambling licensing framework can lodge concerns directly with the GRAI.

Operators not under the GRAI who want to file a complaint can complain directly to Ireland’s ASA, which handles advertising complaints across all industries in Ireland.

As long as the complaint is gambling ad-related, both agencies will collaborate. The idea is for other agencies to use their extensive expertise in gambling (GRAI) and experience in transparent advertising (ASA) to decide whether complaints have substance.

With the two parties in collaboration when either receives a gambling complaint, the process simplifies the decision-making process on whether further action is needed.

Why Does This Complaint Procedure Matter to Our Irish Readers?

The goal is to ensure that Irish gamblers can make decisions based on transparent and actual information. Misleading gambling advertising directly affects ‘Your Money Your Life’ (YMYL).

When we see a gambling advertisement, we want to know the full details. It is the same as buying any other product you see advertised via the many media channels we use, such as TV and social media. The Irish ASA has years of experience ensuring companies advertising on media channels in the country do not, for want of a better phrase, lie about their products.

Gambling is not a straightforward industry when it comes to advertising. Hence, we started the Casinoplusbonus website. It is also the reason why the GRAI and ASA are working together to create what is now a more transparent and workable complaint procedure.

Keeping the Gambling Entertainment Business Transparent

We can compare the GRAI and ASA partnership to the work we do here at Casinoplusbonus. The ultimate goal for all is to give you honest and transparent gambling entertainment.

From our point of view, we use casino reviews to dissect casino bonuses advertised by online casinos more transparently. We do this by reading the small print and enlarging it.

What we mean by enlarging the bonus terms and conditions is that once we have dissected a bonus offer, we place all the pertinent information into our casino review. You will find this information inside a large table under the casino review’s bonus section.

By making these terms and conditions transparent, you know exactly what you are getting from the bonus. As a result, you can make an informed decision.

Furthermore, if we find poor or vague terms and conditions, we expose the casino’s flaws. We do this by writing a warning in the review. This warning lets you know there are vague or unfair terms and conditions giving the gambling platform scope to deny funds that are rightly yours.

The partnership between the GRAI and ASA has a slightly different approach and more authority than we do here at Casinoplusbonus. Firstly, Irish operators and players can complain directly to the GRAI or ASA, which you can also do here at Casinoplusbonus.

However, the key difference is the GRAI and ASA collaboration, backed up by Irish consumer rights laws means these authorities can take action against gambling companies. I.e., they can force the offending operator or gambling entertainment company to take down the misleading advertising.

What to Do If You Spot Misleading or Unfair Gambling Advertising

As a player, you can go directly to the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) or Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) websites. From here, you can make a complaint.

If you would like to file a complaint about a gamling ad that is misleading, then you can visit the ASA of Ireland complaints page.

You can complain about unfair terms and conditions or being mistreated by a gambling company operating under the GRAI by contacting the GRAI complaints via the GRAI@justice.ie email address.
