30 Day Extension for 10x Wagering Rule

UKGC amends Gambling promotions to be safer and simpler, giving British online gambling sites an extra month to prepare for the 10x wagering rule.

In the latest UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) e-bulletin newsletter, one particular title stood out as an online casino player – New gambling promotion rules update.

I opened the page, and it took me to the Gambling promotions to be safer and simpler page, where I noticed it was edited on 24 July 2025

What edits did I spot? The date for the implementation of the maximum 10x bonus wagering requirement for promotions offered by British online casinos has changed.

– Old Date: 19 December 2025

– New Date: 19 January 2026

The date change effectively gives online casinos and sportsbooks an additional 30 days to prepare their promotions to fall in line with the new rules.

I also believe that if promotion teams in the UK plan out these bonuses correctly, they will prevent UK players from wandering over to overseas online casinos, considered unregulated or black-market gambling sites, where wagering requirements are typically anywhere from 40x the bonus only to 35x deposit + bonus.

No 10x Wagering Bonuses in Time For Christmas

About 10 days ago, I was reading Helen Rhodes’ iGB Live 2025 speech on the UK Gambling Commission’s website. As I did with the latest e-bulletin newsletter, the one point I focused all my attention on was the mention of the maximum 10x wagering requirement limit, soon to become a regulatory rule, especially as I had covered it in a news report just 10 days ago.

In her iGB Live 2025 speech, Helen Rhodes said, “changes that will come into force on 19 December 2025“. She specifically mentioned:

(1) A ban on mixed product promotions

(2) Limiting bonus wagering requirements to 10x

Unfortunately, what that means is that my previous statement, ‘10x wagering just in time for Christmas‘ in our last news report covering this topic – UKGC Confirms 10x Bonus Rollover Rule – is no longer valid despite its accuracy just a few days ago.

The change gives the UK’s B2C gambling website a one-month extension to prepare for new promotions to fall in line with the new rule.

The changes to bonuses are part of the White Paper consultation issued on 27 April 2023 – High stakes: gambling reform for the digital age, specifically the section covering Advertising, sponsorship and branding.

Casinoplusbonus Opinion

I’m disappointed that the change has been delayed until after Christmas, as I was looking forward to some 10x bonus wagering over the festive period. I am sure many other players feel the same. On the other hand, I am still in shock that the UKGC has created the rule. One of the key points we always make when searching for the best online casino bonuses that give you a better chance of converting bonus money into real money is to find promotions with a low bonus money rollover.

A 10x the bonus wagering requirement is outstanding. If you look across the UK iGaming market right now, the average wagering requirement is about 40x the bonus only. I still see, and altogether avoid, casinos that require 35x the deposit + bonus or 80x bonus only rollover. That point is also reflected in our UK casino reviews, in which we only review a handful of iGaming platforms with low bonus wagering.

Either way, with the 30-day extension, it’s excellent news for British online gamblers, and regardless of the change of date, the good news is that the bonus wagering requirement changes are still coming!
