With the millions of Euros/Dollars, or billions in the case of software providers like Playtech and Novomatic, giving back to the community is part parcel of doing business.
However, this news piece doesn’t’ include Playtech rather it begins with Merkur’s tree-planting project. Then there’s Novomatic in the news promoting health in the workplace. And finally, I’ll end with an amazing act of kindness by Grosvenor Casino in London and more trees being planted thanks to the successful CSR program by Microgaming’s PlayItForward.
Merkur Plants 25,000 Trees
After finding out Merkur UK undertook a massive project to plant 25,000 trees, I was intrigued, so I did some research. It is sad to learn that over 15.3 billion trees are cut down every year. I was not expecting that figure, but it seems to be the consensus. Worst still, 46% of the world’s trees over the last 12,000 years have vanished. That’s a scary number.
Thankfully there are quite a few projects and charities out there concerned enough about these stats to make their mission to plant more trees.
Like Merkur’s latest efforts, which resulted in the planting of 25,000 trees, Microgaming created mini forests via its Play It Forward program. The Mini Forest project was way back in 2021, so you can imagine after 2 years it will now have its own little ecosystem going on.
Another story that sticks in my mind, in particular, is one that comes from my old hunting ground back in the day I lived in London and played live poker games. It was the Grosvenor Casino, which incidentally gave away 25,000 free meals to the homeless by setting up food/meal stations on the pavement near St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
There we have it. 25,000 trees planted by Merkur, and 25,000 meals given away by Grosvenor Casino.

Novomatic Promotes Health & Exercise in the Workplace
Another software provider concerned about the well-being of people is Novomatic. In its recent CSR activity, the company promoted its NOVO Company Day event. In the event, the company promoted living a healthy lifestyle to its employees. There were trails, sports events, and an interactive football-shooting wall.
The company has an excellent track record for taking care of its staff members and won several awards in the process, including the Best Employer in Lower Austria accolade.
Greentube & Novomatic: Greentube, the digital arm of Novomatic has also won employee excellence awards. The software provider was rated as one of the Top 5 Best Workplaces™ Austria 2023.
Novomatic Second Most Valuable Brand in Austria & the Largest Brand Increase in the Country
On top of this, NOVOMATIC recently scored as the brand with the highest brand value increase in 2023. The company is already rated as the second most valuable brand in Austria. And the only reason it is second is because it has Red Bull to contend with in the number one spot.
However, this year Novomatic beat Red Bull in the stats covering which Austrian brands have the highest brand value increase. Companies such as Spar and Swarovski are also in the running. They both came 3rd and 4th respectively in Austria’s most valuable brand ratings stats.
