We are already a few days into ‘Safer Gambling Week 2022’, which began on 17 October and will continue to run until the end of the week on 23 October.

It is an annual initiative to help people make informed choices about their gambling. The campaign is led by industry trade bodies and aims to educate players, betting company staff members, and the public about the risks involved with gambling and how to gamble responsibly.

Each year, Safer Gambling Week features a blitz of safer gambling messages to help people choose the right options for themselves when it comes to betting and playing at casinos both online and offline.

If you head over to Twitter and Facebook and search for Safer Gambling Week, you will find major industry brands that are advocates of the initiative are posting information on how to gamble responsibly, tools available to players to control their spending, and how to get help if you feel you or a loved one have a problem gambling habit. Major brands I have already spotted in the feed include Games Global, Microgaming, Pragmatic Play, GamblingCare and many more.

You will also find useful information about the initiative as well as suggestions, tools, and advice. Even famous English football coach and manager Harry Redknapp can be seen taking part!

Did you know MGA & UKGC casinos come with responsible gambling tools?

If you are a member of a UKGC online casino or casinos licenced under the MGA, two of the main markets we cover here on Casino Plus Bonus, then your casino account will have an area that gives you access to responsible gambling tools. If you have not used them, or were not aware they existed, check out the boxes below listing just some of the tools you have at your disposal.

Set Limits On Your Account

  • Limit Deposits: Daily, weekly & monthly deposit limits on the amount you can deposit
  • Reality Checks: Remind yourself how long you have been playing with pops that appear at intervals set by you. This tool also shows the amount you have won/lost.
  • Bet/Loss Limits: set a limit on the amount you may wager or on the losses per day.
  • Session Time Limits: Set time limits on the amount of time you can play per day.

Take a Time Our & Track Your Gambling

  • Cool Down Tool: Cool off for 24 hours to 6 weeks by banning yourself from real money deposits & bets/gambling using this tool.
  • Self-Exclusion: Exclude yourself from real money bets and deposits for 1 month to 6 months ‘or’ permanently.
  • Use Resources: Under the responsible gambling footer link at your casino, you can take problem gambling tests and find resources from organisations that help with problem gambling.

Cooling Down: It is easy to get frustrated when things don’t go your way playing slots or table games. To help you cool off for a while, you can ban yourself from making real money deposits and bets for a set period of time using cool-down tools provided by your online casino under your account section. And if you ever need help, check the responsible gambling link or speak with your casino’s customer services team.

Global Regulatory Awards & Other Industry Awards Advocate Responsible Gambling

Promoting responsible gambling has now become an award-winning category in many of the iGaming and sports betting ceremonies we cover here on Casinoplusbonus.

  • Global Regulatory Awards: In our recent news piece covering the up-and-coming ‘Global Regulatory Awards’ some of the award categories include ‘Outstanding Contribution to Responsible Gambling’, ‘Responsible Approach to Advertising/Marketing’, ‘Responsible Gambling Service/Solution Provider’, and ‘Regtech Provider of the Year’.
  • EGR Operators: Another event dishing out awards recognising online gambling companies for their activities related to advocating responsible gambling is the ‘EGR Operators’ event. There is an award for ‘Safer gambling operator of the year’.
  • SBC Awards: At the SBC awards, online gambling firms can compete for the ‘Compliance & KYC Supplier’ of the year. This is a tool used to prevent underage gambling and money laundering. Plus, it is there to ensure compliance with responsible gambling rules is upheld. The event also has awards for ‘Socially Responsible Sportsbook of the Year’ and ‘Socially Responsible Casino of the Year’.
  • EGR Marketing & Innovation Awards: Another event that recognises responsible gambling awards are important is the EGR Marketing & Innovation Awards. It dishes out awards for ‘Socially Responsible Marketing Campaign’, ‘Casino Innovation In Responsible Gambling’ and ‘Sportsbook innovation in responsible gambling’.

More Responsible Gambling to Come: We can expect the addition of responsible gambling award categories to be added as part of other iGaming and sports betting exhibitions in the future as it is now a hot topic in online gambling. It is also a great way for operators and suppliers to show they offer a safe and trustworthy platform.

What is safer gambling week?

Safer Gambling Week is a national initiative to increase awareness of responsible gambling and the available resources. Supporters of the initiative include IGRG, GamCare, and YGAM.

The week is a chance for betting and gaming companies to showcase their work and encourage people to gamble responsibly. Responsible gambling practices include deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. However, during this week, businesses can go beyond these tools to help prevent problem gambling and promote open conversations about gambling.

It is important for organisations that deal with young people to make the week as safe as possible. This means identifying the issues involved, teaching young people healthy gambling practices, and helping them seek help when needed. Several resources will be available online, in retail outlets, and through supporting organisations.
