AGA (American Gambling Awards) 2023

Although here on Casinoplusbonus, the US is not a geo we cover, it is always interesting to see how brands operating within the geos we cover perform overseas.

In the latest American Gambling Awards (AGA) event, Playtech and White Hat Gaming were two familiar iGaming companies that came away from North America with first-place wins.

On top of this, PaySafe, known for the Paysafecard solution, features on our casino deposit options guide. Besides this, Genius Sports is a well-known brand if you are into sports betting. BetMGM is also in the mix due to its recent infiltration of the UK market with Chris Rock as a brand ambassador and a recent Newcastle United partnership. Moreover, BetMGM also hit the headlines recently for its purchase of LeoVegas Casino. Outside of the goes we cover, FanDuel often gets a mention, mainly because it is a brand that operates in Canada’s Ontario gaming entertainment zone but is not a platform we recommend or have reviewed yet.

Other winners, I am not familiar with. However, I believe these are winners from states where iGaming is illegal, but online sports betting is. That goes for winners of the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health and Ohio Casino Control Commission’s Anna Marin Russell. Then there is Simplebet, a company headquartered in New York specialising in sports betting technology and creating micro-betting solutions for in-game betting events.

Key AGA award winners: White Hat Gaming because the company’s aggregator platform is behind the popular 21 Casino brand serving MGA and UKGC markets. Obviously, Playtech needs no introduction!

Eleven Brands Share in the Spoils at the American Gambling Awards (AGA)

This year, eleven awards were up for grabs, covering online casinos, sports books, gaming products, betting products, data services, and an emphasis on regulatory and responsible gambling. Notice that the Playtech award was for the brand’s Adventures Beyond Wonderland live casino gameshow, derived from the Adventures Beyond online slots. Both games are the brainchild of, you’ve guessed it, the cult fairy tale of Alive in Wonderland.

Playtech Plans to Push Further into the Live Casino Game Show Niche

One of the company’s first endeavours into the world of live game shows online was its Spin ‘A’ Win live game. It matched the likes of Dreamcatcher and Mega Wheel, some of the first Wheel of Fortune gameshows to hit the online casino scene. These games then evolved to include bonus rounds, where Evolution pushed the boundaries with Monopoly Live and Crazy Time. These games are available on many platforms covered via the Casinoplusbonus live casino guide.

Playtech’s answer to those titles was the release of Adventure’s Beyond Wonderland and Money Drop. However, Adventure’s Beyond Wonderland didn’t hit the US market until July 2023, while it hit the online casino markets across Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, India, Ireland, and the UK in late 2020. With Monopoly Live and Crazy Time already so prevalent, both game shows snapped up all the awards.

A Timely US release: The timing of the release of Adventure’s Beyond Wonderland into Playtech’s New Jersey live casino studio couldn’t have been any better. It meant it stuck out like a soar thumb in this year’s American Gambling Awards (AGA) making it the obvious winner, in my opinion.

Other Playtech Gameshows Hitting the Live Dealer Scene

Slot fans can enjoy live casino slot gameshows like Live Age of the Gods: God of Storms, Live Buffalo Blitz, and Live Safari Riches. These games are part of a strategy to transition slot players or to help them broaden their horizons into the live casino gaming arena. On top of this, Playtech already features Deal or No Deal, Who Wants to be a Millionaire Live Roulette, Age of the Gods Jackpot Roulette, Everybody’s Jackpot Live, The Greatest Cards Show Live, and there is a bespoke Wheel of Fortune title Fashion TV Mega Party Wheel of Fortune.

Next is a gameshow called Family Feud, which comes from a partnership with Fremantle. The company produces TV game shows, and the one Playtech is most interested in recreating as an online casino game, Family Feud. It is another deal with a huge company to add to its Sony Pictures for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Jumanji live games, as well as its Warner Bros deal to create DC Comic slots games.
