Germany’s leading gaming group is entering 2024 with a fresh new look. Earlier this year, the Gauselmann Group announced it’s now uniting under the Merkur brand name across its global family of companies. This change gives the group a unified identity, honouring its most iconic label, beloved by players for almost 50 years.
The Merkur brand had its roots in the 1970s when entrepreneur Paul Gauselmann was starting. His creation of arcade-style gaming centres, featuring what were then called ‘amusement with prizes’ skill game machines, became a winning concept.
With their laughing sun logo lighting up the German streets, the Merkur Spielotheks drew legions of fans.
In the 1980s, the company struck gold again with its Merkur B series of gaming devices. Hugely popular both in Germany and abroad, they drove rapid expansion. By the 1990s, Merkur was a household name across Europe’s gambling sector.
Today’s rebranding effort is no small feat. It requires updating visual identity elements across the group’s footprint – from physical signs to online platforms. But continuity remains vital, too. The Gauselmann Family Foundation name will stay, preserving the founding philosophy.
