Good news for UK players wondering what happened to the announcement made suggesting all British online gambling sites will be capped at 10x wagering requirements.
The United Kingdom Gambling Commission’s (UKGC) Director of Major Policy Projects and Evaluation, Helen Rhodes, has officially confirmed at the iGB Live 2025, held in early June, that the new 10x rollover rule will come into place by 19 December 2025.
The last time we brought this topic up was in March 2025, when we released our ‘UK Players to Benefit from Max 10x Wagering Requirements’ UK gambling news report.
Just in time for Christmas!
We are still unsure whether the rules will also ban the deposit and bonus rule on top of this. However, from the speech, it does look as if the UK’s online gambling entertainment establishments will be forced to adopt the 10x bonus only rule.
The reason I have come to this conclusion is by the way she has explained the rule.
Specifically, she said: “a £10 bonus with a 50 times wagering requirement, requires the consumer to play through £500 before the winnings can be withdrawn”.
Speaking for the UKGC’s reasoning behind the move, the idea is to reduce the risk of problem gambling. In Ms. Rhodes’ iGB 2025 speech, she said that high wagering requirements encourage players to gamble for longer and more often in an attempt to meet these bonus turnover rules.

A Ban on Mixed Promotions
Alongside the confirmation that limits for 10x wagering will come into force by the end of 2025, there will also be a ban on mixed promotions. That means online gambling platforms that host multiple verticals, for example, casino and sports, must design promotions for one specific vertical rather than combine casino and sports into a single promotional offer.
Further Topics Covered by Helen Rhodes at the iGB 2025
In addition to the headline reforms and financial risk assessments already covered, Helen Rhodes also touched on several other areas of regulatory focus that signal the UK Gambling Commission’s broader commitment to consumer protection and fair play:
Improved Consumer Transparency on Identity Checks
Rhodes noted that the Commission is progressing a programme to improve clarity for consumers regarding identity verification or account restrictions, particularly those applied late in the customer journey, such as during withdrawals. This aims to address ongoing confusion and friction in user experiences.
Collaboration with the ICO on Online Tracking Compliance
The UKGC is working with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to bring the UK’s top 1,000 websites, including gambling platforms, into compliance with rules on user tracking and data transparency. The initiative ensures consumers have meaningful control over how their online activity is tracked.
These efforts, while less headline-grabbing than the 10x bonus wagering restriction, should, in theory, create a safer and more player-focused UK online gambling industry.
Casinoplusbonus Opinion
Well, the mixed promotions rule is something we can’t really say benefits us. It’s not a glaring change that is going to affect most online gamblers.
With that being said, from my point of view, I can see why the UKGC has taken such a stance. They believe that if a casino player who has never bet on sports claims a promotion that includes a sports bet and enjoys sports betting, then the promotion may expand the player’s appetite for gambling, which could encourage them to gamble more.
As for the 10x wagering requirement rule, of course, as an online gambler and a member of three UK casino platforms, I am all for lower wagering requirements. In fact, we spend a lot of time looking for bonuses that come with a low rollover, so I am all for it.
What will happen is that bonuses will likely become much lower. I.e., we will see fewer 100% deposit match deals and possibly a rise in 50% deposit match deals. However, all that would mean is less bonus money to play through. We may also see high bonus offers, for instance, a 100% deposit match up to £50 change to a 100% deposit match up to £20.
Therefore, how the change will affect you personally as a player is entirely down to your appetite for bonus money.
