National Monopoly Day

Starting on 19 November, the famous board game Monopoly has a special day dedicated to it.

National Play Monopoly Day is celebrated annually on November 19. And some people celebrate the game for an entire week.

Before the internet and then smartphones came along, Monopoly was one of the most played games.

Rather than crowding around a Nintendo, friends and family would huddle around the board to see who could become the property tycoon of London.

I didn’t realise there was a National Monopoly Day until it popped up on my news feed at random. It’s probably because I play Monopoly Live by Evolution, and I occasionally watch videos of big wins.

To my surprise, online casinos have not picked up on this day either.

You would have thought once a year would be a great time to create a promotion to celebrate the day, but no such luck in my searches.

Well we’re going to celebrate here at Casinoplusbonus with a few spins and rounds on a few of the many online game titles based on Monopoly.

As our Happy National Monopoly Week to you, we’ve created a list of some of the Monopoly casino games on offer as of the end of November 2024.

Yes, I would love to make this content evergreen and not put a date on it. Yet, I expect more Monopoly game titles to hit the online casinos in the future, seeing as this is such an iconic game. We don’t want our readers landing on this page then realising that due to new releases, there are more Monopoly games than we’ve listed below

Two Famous Live Casino Monopoly Game Shows

Monopoly Live was the first online casino live game show to hit the iGaming circuit. It has become one Evolution Gaming’s most successful live Wheel of Fortune games, and has led to the release of Monopoly Big Baller Live.

  • Monopoly Live: You can win multipliers by betting on the Wheel of Fortune, while there is a bonus game included. Its bonus game takes you on a journey around the Monopoly board with Mr. Monopoly himself. As players journey around this augmented reality version of the HASBRO board game, they collect multipliers.
  • Monopoly Big Baller: This game show version is a lotto game with a bonus round. Its bonus game is a replica of Monopoly Live as you and Mr. Monopoly journey around the Monopoly board picking up multipliers.

The History of Monopoly (Timeline)

To finish off, I want to leave you with a bit of history about the original Monopoly board game. Therefore, here is a time line of how the game became what is today one of the most famous board games over a century after its inception.

  • 1903 – 1924: Elizabeth Magie invented a game called The Landlord’s Game in the USA. She did this to show people how monopolies pose a threat to business. The game was also there to make people aware of the benefits of a single tax system. She later patented the game in 1906, which at this time had the same layout as the current Monopoly board but was not yet based on areas of London. She renewed her patent once again in 1924.
  • 1930 – 1935: The became didn’t start picking up as a popular game played by family and friends until the 1930s. The game name changed to Monopoly, but  London still was not the main city featured. However, versions of the game based on cities were out, such as The Atlantic City version by Charles Darrow. Also, the board game was starting to look more like the version we know today with features like Go, Chance, and Community Chest.
  • 1935-1940: The Parker Brothers purchased Charles Darrow’s version and the rights from Elizabeth Magie. The brothers launched the game internationally, with local versions using street names and currencies for different country target markets.
  • 1940-1991: Monopoly is played on TV game shows and is now a household board game, with the London version now played in the UK. By 1991 HASBRO has purchased the game right from from the Parker Brothers.

Today: Monopoly is still a popular board game. There are also digital versions of the game online, and soon, HASBRO would make deals with online casino operators, brining video slots and live casino games to the iGaming industry!
