UK White Paper Consultations Move Forward

The new rules and regs are on their way. I recently covered this topic in the recent UK White Paper Moves Forward news report.

  • The first key point operators and software providers are following closely are upcoming stake limits for online slots.
  • The second covers a broader array of topics. This includes Anti-money laundering (AML) checks as well as affordability checks. The British government aims to ensure people do not launder money through online casinos. In this case, operators must request a source of income. On top of this, the decision at which point to trigger affordability checks to ensure players can afford to gamble is part of the discussion.

The right balance: This is key for the UK government right now. Several surveys, especially by YouGov reveal that UK citizens are willing to seek out the black market (non-UKGC sites) if new rules affect their gambling experience negatively.

UK Gambling Industry Employee Shortage – According to Bacta

This one baffles me, but I will take John White’s word for it, as he’s in the industry’s trenches daily. He is the CEO of Bacta, which is the UK trade association. He says that the UK’s gambling sector should join industries such as roofers, bricklayers, and other manual labouring on the skill shortage list. This would allow more overseas workers to apply for work and gain a VISA in the UK.

My opinion: How many UK citizens are claiming jobless benefits? Get them trained and get them to work. The training expenses now are worth it in the long run.

Australia’s Crown Casino Intros New Self-Exclusion System

In the Australian casino sector, the Crown Casino land-based venue is finally in the news for the right reasons. Players now have the option to join a self-exclusion system if they feel their gambling is out of control. This is something most online casinos offer too.

What is self-exclusion? You can prevent yourself from playing real money games. Most online casinos offer this option under your profile. And today, we are increasingly seeing land-based venues offer the same service.

Regulatory News Stories in Brief

(Bite-size news so you are in the know!)

  • Bet365: The company is hot on the subject of responsible gambling. To reinforce its commitment, the company has extended its partnership with Rightlander. The company helps Bet365 by providing affiliate compliance tools across multiple jurisdictions. This helps Bet365 comply with local rules and regs with a particular focus on promoting responsible gambling.
  • Bet365: According to new sources, Betsson is looking to enter the Arizona sports betting market.
  • 4ThePlayer: The brand partner for Games Global (Microgaming) gained licensing with the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB). Big name casino brands such as BetMGM, Ceasars Sportsbook & Casino, William Hill Casino, Wynn Casino will now be able to sign B2B supply deals with the software provider.
  • BetConstruct: One of the largest gambling entertainment firms operating across land-based and online arenas has gained its Netherlands licensing certification under the Dutch Gaming Authority (NGA).
  • Betsson: The company had a Dutch Gaming Authority (NGA) licensing application in process. However, in a sudden turn of events pulled out. Betsson previously operated in the Dutch gambling market, however, the NGA suspended the betting and casino giant due to alleged unethical and illegal advertising.
