New Zealand plans to regulate all online casinos by 2026 via a domestic licensing framework.

Here is some background info:

  • To date, plans state that all overseas online casinos will be banned. Therefore, players who play at casinos operating under the Malta Gaming Authority or Curacao GCB will not be allowed to offer online gambling services to Kiwi players.

More information:

  • Number of Licences: A limited number of licences will be allocated by auction.
  • Casino Games Only: Operators can only offer online casino games, not sports betting or lottery products

I read your article about it. No news here in NZ about it. Must be under wraps or something. If the government bans casinos not following our rules, does that mean I can't play at Nine Casino or Wheelz? ONLY 9 online casinos can apply in a bidding war? Right now I have access to thousands of casinos as a Kiwi. Then they want us to choose from 9? Am I readying this right. Come on what happened to free choice?

I was not aware of this? We already have average sports books. Now they want to limit us to just a few casinos. I will not be a part of it. I understand it means tax income for my country but limiting my freedom of choice. I’m not on board with it.

I guess we will have to wait and see. At least we will have better protection. Like you though, I do feel they should have an unlimited number of licenses offered, so that all the big brands can get in on it.

Coming into effect at the start of July next year. Seriously, if these casinos are shite, I'm moving to Aus. Lol, joke.
