Today we bring you news of the latest UK Advertising Standards Authority’s latest crackdown, with the ‘risk-free’ gambling label being the latest ‘promotional phrase’ attacked by the strict UK gambling laws.

On top of this, we will closely examine what to expect in the latest ‘Regulating the Game’ conference in London. The event makes its way from Australia and showcases overseas for the first time in its history.

And to top off the latest news, we look into 888 Holding’s senior VP’s exit.

ASA Says Match Betting Service Can No Longer Be Advertised as ‘Risk-Free’

Warnings have been given by the ASA that matched betting services can no longer be promoted as ‘risk-free’. According to the UK advertising watchdog, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), advertising practises need to be adapted because promoting matched betting services as completely risk-free is not the truth.

This is in reference to services where players can use free bets that are provided by the service operators as an incentive to get started on their platform. These free bets are used to bet on all the possible outcomes of an event which is promoted as guaranteeing a win by using free bets.

The ASA has forwarded its recommendation to the executive of the Committee of Advertising Practises (CAP) so that regulations can be adjusted. Gambling adverts have to comply with the UK CAP Code, according to which, adverts cannot imply that gambling can solve financial problems or create any kind of financial stability.

By using suggestive advertising, online gambling companies are allegedly luring players under false pretences. Moreover, the allegation is that these advertisements often focus on younger people who are more likely to fall for the ‘risk-free’ label.

The ASA is constantly investigating claims and updating its policy in an effort to protect people from the risks of misleading advertising and gambling.

Regulating the Game conference comes to London

Regulating the Game is a conference established in Australia and hosted by the Australian law firm, Senet, which specialises in gambling laws. Over the years, the conference has been put on show in Australia, however, this year the show heads to London for the first time. It is also the first time the conference has ventured outside of its homeland to another country.

The event will span 5 days, each focusing on a different theme. Some of the topics on the day will include discussions on regulations, responsible gambling, industry technology and innovation, and operations and practices.

Regulating the Game is also a networking event for gambling entertainment stakeholders. By bringing them together they can participate in meaningful conversations and debates covering the industry, with one of the hottest topics being best practice regulations. This creates the perfect opportunity to meet other industry leaders with collaboration opportunities.

Furthermore, the 5-day event will feature speakers who are experts in their respective areas of gambling entertainment. And these speeches will have a strong focus on the UKGC online casinos industry and European sectors, which is one of the reasons behind the London venue being chosen.
