On Thursday, Water Street District witnessed the memorable launch of The Pass Casino on the site of the just remodeled gaming hall.

July 1st, 1962 was the opening of the property at Water Street which was previously named Eldorado Casino. This was the foremost co-owned casino by gaming legends Sam Boyd and Bill, his son.

Henderson is located approximately 15 miles southeast near downtown Las Vegas.

In March 2020, the state ordered the closure of Boyd Gaming due to the pandemic. DeSimone Gaming, the owners of Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino close to Boulder City, acquired the company’s property in December.

Million Dollar Rebound

As reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, $7 million was invested in the property for renovation and rebranding by 53 years old owner and real estate developer in Henderson, JoeDeSimone.

Under Boyds, the property became among the foremost to support locals and give employment to women dealers. Joe DeSimone said he is willing to continue the culture while including a few improvements.

We are going to make our changes just like we have done. Hopefully, we can think back to when it was owned by the Boyds along with our dear customers and have exciting, memories,” he said to the newspaper. “however, we believed it was the right time to do a revamp on the property, giving it a modern 21st-century look – with style.”

A roulette table, a craps table, and four blackjacks will be added to the over 350 gaming machines already available. Also, installed in the casino is a Circa Resort sportsbook.

Replacing the Mexican restaurant is an Italian restaurant called Ristorante Italiano. Also, the 1950s-themed dinner is now called Emelia’s café. The owner named the café after his 6 years old daughter.

To explain the change, DeSimone said, “No one remembers the ’50s anymore.”

Speaking to the newspaper, DeSimone said he intends to have a hotel added to the site.

Water Street Revival

Located close to The Pass is the Lifeguard Arena – a practice facility worth $26 million which belongs to Henderson Silver Knights, an American Hockey League team. The facility was opened in November which is also an addition to Water Street Revival.

The practice facility was called “a turning point for Water Street” by the Mayor of Henderson, Debra March.

Although Silver Knights hold practice sessions in Henderson, their home games are played approximately 17 miles northwest of Orleans Arena. Orleans Arena is located west of the Las Vegas strip at Orleans Hotel and Casino.

The Orleans is close to T-Mobile Arena, which is where Vegas Golden Knights play their National Hockey League home games. On the strip close to Park MGM is T-Mobile.

Golden Knights affiliate is the Henderson team. Across Canada and the USA is a roster of the AHL 31 developmental team with the names of a player vying to play for a team in the NHL.

Other Vegas Casino Openings

Opening this week in Las Vegas is The Pass which also coincides with the opening of other renovated or new hotel-casinos. It is a positive signal to tourism administrators indicating an economic recovery is in sight despite the pandemic.

In downtown Glitter Gulch Las Vegas, Circa Resort began operating as a strictly adults hotel-casino, toward the end of last year.

Resorts World Las Vegas will be opening this summer where Stardust Casino previously stood west of the strip, south of downtown.

Just at the east strip of Paradise road, the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas began operation at the end of last month. Hard rock hotel casino was renovated and rebranded to Virgin hotel.
