UK Gambling Regulation Conference

After the UK gambling White Paper draft release caused a stir in the casino and sports betting industry, a new event to help tackle the minefield of rules is set to commence for the first time in the country.

The conference is known as ‘Regulating the Game’, which comes from another strict gambling market, Australia.

As UK gambling platforms struggle with staying up to date with the rules and regs laid out under the Gambling Act, evident via the continuation of large regulatory fines, this is set to help regulators and gambling companies.

Earmarked to kick off in September this year, the event will run over the course of 5 days. I am assuming Monday to Friday.

It is an impressive number of days! Even ICE London, one of the most formidable global conferences in gambling lasts just 3 days.

During that time, there are plenty of topics to cover. Research papers, regulatory rules, and ethical leadership are all on the cards for topics of discussion with each one broken down into segments.

The idea is that industry leaders can share their experiences and offer advice on how each company deals with the various rules under the UKGC. This also includes advice from those operating under similar rules in other jurisdictions.

What is the goal here? Getting everyone onboard is the ultimate aim of this conference. By teaming up, regulators can offer advice on how to avoid fines, and companies can share technology and processes used to solve tough-to-tackle gambling rules.

A Conference from Down Under!

If you read our online gambling Australia news reports, then you probably already understand just how tough an industry this is for gambling companies.

Firstly, online casinos are not legally allowed to operate in the country, and secondly, the rules covering online sports betting are what I call exuberant. Not for the casino, but for the officials who seem to endlessly change the rules at will.

As a result of strict online gambling rules and rising taxes, it has become one of the most hostile gambling jurisdictions for start-ups, new brands, and the existing large-size companies currently operating in the country. It certainly mirrors what is happening in the UK, so where better place to take the Regulating the Game Conference than Britain? It makes perfect sense.

Paul Newson, the founder of the Regulating the Game Conference has certainly thought this one through and has come to the UK at a crucial time in its regulatory history.

My Thoughts: Personally, I think this is just what the country needs. A conference that gathers all the big players (because that’s all that is remaining now due to the cost), who can discuss and share ideas on how to operate ethically, share tech, discover new processes, and operate within the rules of the gambling act.

Regulating the Game Conference to Include a ‘Pitch’ Mini Event

Although the UK is virtually making it impossible for new brands and startup operators to enter the UK gambling market, there is some light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the Gambling Act’s strict rules. That is, it gives tech startups a chance to rise up with new innovative B2B solutions that help gambling companies to use technology to avoid UKGC fines.

This is where the Regulating the Game Conference ‘Pitch’ mini event comes into the fold. Entrepreneurs as well as already established tech solutions providers will have the chance to pitch their products to gambling companies in attendance.

Which Pitch Tech can we expect? Research platforms, AML platforms, responsible gambling technologies such as problem gambling tech, plus platform and in-game tools to help players gamble responsibly.
