About the Malta Gaming Authority

The Malta Gaming Authority is a regulatory body set up to take up the challenges of legal parameters for casinos and gaming industries. As the gaming industry has gradually shifted from brick and mortar casinos to iGaming innovations that rely on technology to boost player interaction and bring exciting games to their doorstep, there is a need for a regulatory body to oversee the affairs of such games and the casinos themselves. Thus, the Malta Gaming Authority carries out tests to ascertain the strength and weaknesses of casinos and their games, and then give license to casinos that pass the criteria.  The regulatory body aims to safeguard players’ rights, keep gaming free from criminal acts, promote responsible gaming, protect vulnerable persons and minors and also ensure the integrity of gaming devices and games.

In addition, the Malta Gaming Authority monitors licensed gaming, supports good causes, collects gaming taxes for the government, and ensures the sector’s contribution to the development of the country at large. The Gaming Authority in Malta has a strong vision to raise the gaming sector standard to an acceptable global level and make gaming safer and fairer while protecting consumers’ interests. Other visions of the Malta Gaming Authority are to retain Malta’s position in the list of respectable jurisdictions in the gaming industry as well as adapting Malta gaming’s regulatory structure to the needs of the evolving market while aiming for excellence.

Lastly, the Malta Gaming Authority has the following objectives; to

  • support technological and industry innovation
  • provide accessible and authoritative information
  • operate a fully integrated and successful authority; and
  • merge all regulation functions with relation to gaming activities.
