The Latest February 2023 Acquisition News

Up-to-date February 2023 Acquisition News! Aristocrat snaps up Roxor, Games Global buys another company, and more! (Image from)

In a fast-moving iGaming industry, sometimes the right acquisition or merger at the right time can be another to move a company to the next level.

They can bring instant content and expertise, expand their market share, take out the competition or give brands access to new iGaming markets.

Furthermore, acquiring other companies can help to save costs in the long run as it can consolidate operations.

Well, we expect plenty of acquisitions to take place in 2023, much like there were in 2022.

So far, there have been a few already this year and, in this report, we will tell you about those involved. Aristocrat, Games Global, and Greentube, are just some of the movers and shakers so far this year.

Aristocrat Completes Acquisition of Roxor

Following the long, drawn out, and ultimately failed attempt to Playtech throughout 2022, the Australian iGaming heavyweight, Aristocrat Leisure has moved on by acquiring the UK-based Real Money Gaming (RMG) supplier, Roxor Gaming Limited.

As part of the deal, which was originally agreed upon in 2022 but only just closed, Aristocrat Leisure will get hold of the company’s two in-house studios. The hope is that this acquisition will accelerate the growth and strategy of Aristocrat’s own RMG business, Anaxi. That business came as a result of another acquisition by Aristocrat in 2019. Then, the company announced it had acquired an 85% stake in Big Fish Games, which is a subsidiary of Churchill Downs Incorporated. At the time of the acquisition, Anaxi was one of the games in the portfolio of Big Fish Games.

Roxor Gaming began life in 2019 but has previously built up more than 20 years of experience working as the in-house iGaming content developer for Gamesys. In addition to developing its own games, Roxor Gaming also partners with other companies to distribute their games on its platform. This allows the company to offer a diverse range of games to its players, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

As you will see in our Australia casino software providers guide, Aristocrat is one of the countries most prominent iGaming firms. So close to acquiring Playtech only for blocks put in place by sketchy stakeholders, the firm does now have a UK acquisition at least.

Super Group Offloads Non-Core B2B Division to Games Global

In the first acquisition news of the day, I can tell you that the New York-listed Super Group has reached an agreement with Games Global to sell off part of its recently acquired Digital Gaming Corporation (DGC), to Games Global.

The Super Group, the operating company behind brands such as Betway and Spins, has agreed in principle to sell the non-core B2B division of that recently acquired asset. The firm only acquired DGC at the start of January this year, following a long partnership between the two entities.

DGC, is licensed to operate in 12 US states and essentially acted as a US vehicle for the Betway and Spin brands owned by the Super Group. This agreement will work similarly for Games Global, which will now follow the same path. The DGC’s B2B division is licensed in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

Games Global acquired Quickfire, the games distribution arm of the iGaming giant, Microgaming in March 2022. Microgaming had established dozens of partnerships with independent studios, including Triple Edge Studios, Switch Studios, and Stormcraft Studios, and now Games Global is carrying on that relationship. The hope is the firm can now bring those 450+ titles, including the WowPot and Mega Moolah jackpot games, to those states on top of another 2,500+ games from dozens of the company’s other partner studios.

The deal also benefits Super Group as the following the sale, the firm can put full focus on developing its Betway and Spins brands in the US. With the company already holding a strong presence across Europe and Africa, it has turned its attention to North America in the last year.

Microgaming titles in the US? That would become a big score for the US markets. The firm is one of the oldest in iGaming and renowned for its WowPot and Mega Moolah jackpot slots. You can read more on the latter in our Mega Moolah Jackpot slots overview.
