World-leading iGaming entertainment and sports betting operator, Entain Commits to Safe Play by extending the lengths of their partnerships. Those agreements to work together entail working with outside partners providing education and offering support across areas of the firm’s interactive entertainment product. The key aim is to build and strengthen its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to protect customers against the fouls of gambling.

Via the Entain Foundation, a non-profit operation, the ‘Entain Group’ plan on building on work that was initiated with their US partners in particular. The purpose of this is to offer help to e-sports and video-gaming players in Europe and the United Kingdom, who are at risk of potential harm which is an extension to the firms sports betting and iGaming programs already in place and constantly evolving. Working together with several important partners who have industry knowledge within the field of player protection, the Foundation is looking to extend its work to offer support and education for people who enjoy the various interactive entertainment across Europe and the United Kingdom.

Recently Playtech, also a UK company as is Entain, won an award from Gamcare for its safer standards across its multiple verticals. The topic of protecting those within online gambling also stretches beyond just player care but also extends to operators and aggregators. A prime example of this was Every Matrix releasing its guide on how to protect against affiliate fraud.

Mind Your Game

The Entain Foundation will sponsor an educational initiative via social media that raises awareness towards potential addition. Victim of gaming disorders support community, Game Quitters, will launch ‘Mind Your Game’ across the United Kingdom. This development initiative was supported by Kindbridge, which is a teletherapy operation that focuses on treatments for gamblers and gaming sufferers who are struggling with issues surrounding mental health.

Offering Support and Providing Education

Working with EPIC Risk Management, who will provide education and give support to people who are in danger of online addiction.  They also work closely with individuals regarding gaming disorders connected to interactive entertainment and video gaming. There also have international consultants who specialise in preventing gambling from getting to harmful levels. Also supporting will be the Counter-Strike Professional Players Association, which represent professional iGaming players from across all e-sports. This Group has a worldwide focus and is working closely together with EPIC Risk Management.

‘Mind Your Game’ gives players facts about mental health issues and challenges that gamers face. The initiative also involves their families too, if requested. They focus in particular on certain issues that should be watched for, how to reduce the risk of potential harm, and offer advice on finding support. There are several educational videos that are available through YouTube, including Esports Betting, Skin Gambling, Seek Help and Spot the Problem.

Grainne Hurst, Entain’s Director for Safer Gaming said that Entain has a philosophy of understanding customers and meeting their needs. This means that they have to provide the best entertainment experiences but also, they must be doing everything in their power to support and protect them. Hurst went on to say that, at the heart of their approach of a sustainable business model, lives a strong belief that to have the best chance of achieving long-term success; they must deliver the highest levels possible for player protection and safety.

Sustainability Charter was released last year by Entain. Entain gave assurance that they intend to pledge £100 million to help communities with responsible gambling. Entain promised that by 2025, the money will be invested through their foundation.

Dr Griffiths is an advisor for Entain. He is also a Professor in Psychology and Behavioral Addiction, currently with a position at the University of Nottingham. With a 30-year knowledge of addictive behaviours, Dr Griffiths was involved with a team that worked on a project that helped prompt the WHO in June 2018, to recognise the condition, Gaming Disorder, to become an officially recognised condition of mental health.

Today, Dr Griffiths is working side by side with Harvard academics from the Faculty of Addiction, as well as with Entain; working on a 5-year project where they research to improve the current levels of knowledge about addictive behaviours. Additionally, along with other reputable academics, they are on a panel that advises Entain on player protection.
